This is going to be a quick one.
We’re at JFK waiting for our flight to Cape Town via Dakar. So far the trip has gone smoothly thanks to some excellent organizing by our program manager, Sarah Jerger. All students and all luggage is here and accounted for. I went last-minute ring shopping at the jeweler in the terminal. We have heard that we will need them to fend off marriage proposals. It’s a reality for western women travelling alone in some parts of the world. They say that the ring makes it easier to escape the attention. It feels crass, to be sure, but I guess we’ll see.
If you are reading this blog and you aren’t my mom, you probably already know that Kokoromi announced GAMMA 3D a week ago today. The response from developers and other interested parties has been really positive – people are really excited about the potential. Truth is, this may be the most difficult design challenge of the three GAMMAs we’ve held so far. We actually don’t know if there is anything great to be done with stereoscopic gameplay.  We think there is….and that this is the best way to discover it… but really, we just don’t know. This is kind of frightening, since we have a lot of effort and sponsors and emotional investment from around the world going into the event. In any case I know we will have some fun and visually impressive games to play in november. The question is whether they really will use anaglyphic display in any unique way. Can’t wait to find out!
It’s hard to believe that a day from now I’ll be standing on another continent, in another reality, halfway around the world. There’s really no way any of us can understand at this moment what the next week is going to bring. How we’re going to change. It’s going to be huge, of course. We’ll be documenting everything as best we can, and uploading it to our new project blog. I’ll still be writing here, and syndicating my related posts there, so if you just want to follow that project, head on over.
